Choose the suspension, the core of the mattress !

The main element that constitutes the heart of the mattress – The 3 main types of suspension
To choose your mattress properly, besides the mattress topper (my suggestion is using casper mattress topper) the first point to ask for advice is the suspension. Historically the types of suspension are multiple, ranging from wool to latex. Here we will focus more on the three main types of suspension: springs, foam and latex. The wool is no longer used because of its short life.
1. Latex mattresses

Latex is a material derived from rubber, it can be natural or synthetic. Generally, both are mixed to obtain a stable and perennial formula, the right proportion is 15% natural latex in a mattress; So do not hesitate to ask for this figure when you are looking to buy a latex mattress.

Latex mattresses are very advantageous on many points:
Comfort zones

The latex mattresses make it possible to create several zones of comfort on the same mattress to ensure a support adapted to the whole body. In general, there are 3 or 5 zones of comfort which vary the firmness of the mattress in a symmetrical manner. There are also commercially available 7 comfort zone mattresses which are very expensive and do not provide anything compared to a 5 comfort zones.

Aeration
The perfect ventilation from the perforations of the alveoli, the latex mattresses are extremely well ventilated and pose no problem in a room with high humidity.

Latex mattresses are probably the best mattresses because they combine the most assets: longevity, ventilation … We feel a real difference between the comfort of a three-zone mattress and a mattress to 5 zones but it is clearly useless to buy a mattress with 7 zones of comfort.

2. Foam mattresses

Again, large changes can be observed in foam suspensions, which are initially completely chemical, foam mattresses are now becoming more natural, they no longer use CFC-type materials which are very harmful to the environment. Professionals go green. Again, there are different types of foam mattresses.

Polyether foam mattresses
These are closed-cell foam mattresses, they are used for entry-level mattresses in general or for secondary mattresses.

Note of choice: this type of mattress is sufficient for a secondary residence or for non-intensive use
Polyurethane foam mattresses

These are open cell foam mattresses, they have a better density than the previous ones and will be firmer with better hold over time. The main disadvantage of this type of mattress remains the sensitivity to moisture.
Note of choice: this type of suspension is firmer but is not recommended in places with high humidity.

Memory foam or viscoelastic
It is the most upmarket foam. At the base created for space travel this foam is the latest innovation of foams. It provides excellent support for people with back problems. The biggest problem with memory foam mattresses comes from the fact that they are sensitive to heat. If the room is not heated the mattress will be hard as concrete and on the contrary if you are warm at night and you sweat a lot, you will be wrapped and therefore the heat will be maintained in the memory foam.

3. Spring mattresses

Spring mattresses are made of steel wire drawn and heat-treated. The main quality of a spring mattress is its ventilation. The ventilation of a mattress is very important for people who have warm at night or tend to perspire during their sleep. There are three main types of spring mattresses that are commonly encountered.
The “bonnel” or conical springs
These are the springs that we all know and which were historically the most used but they present many defects, that is why many professionals have abandoned this format of spring mattress. Their main defect is longevity, it varies according to your morphology but many people complain that they have springs that get back into their back quickly.

Please note: we do not recommend this type of spring mattress
Multipurpose or continuous wire springs
They are a somewhat special technology of spring mattresses. It is a single wire of extended steel, one actually sleeps only on one and the same spring. The main problem with this type of mattress springs is the sleeping independence. You may be embarrassed at night by your partner and have big sleep problems. Knowing that one turns on average 40 times a night, with two it makes 80. In addition, one quickly feels the steel wires which does not allow to sleep well.

Please note: we do not recommend this type of spring mattress
Pocket springs
It is at the moment the most advanced spring technology. The principle is that each spring is wrapped in a pouch. The ventilation is not altered but the most important is that the independence of coating is preserved. Each spring is independent of its neighbor. With this type of mattress you will not sweat at night and you can move as much as you want without waking your partner.
